This early Queen Anne style chest replica could be classified a transitional chest on frame. The Tall Case Clock was an elegant example of Willard's craft. The Tall Case design was developed following the introduction of the pendulum, to protect the moving mechanisms from dust and damage. Due to a limited demand for clockmakers, these artisans had to find other means of support for themselves and their families. Thus the clockmakers frequently became gunsmiths, blacksmiths, and many other professions involving metal. The woodworkers naturally were the house builders, and the cabinet makers. But after some time due to demand the clockmakers and the woodworkers found themselves together in a common bond. But by this time the larger clocks were becoming old fashioned, evolving were clocks of more graceful proportions.
