Stlcken & Sohn shipyard in Hamburg, Germany in 1883, it retired from pilot service in 1924 and purchased by author Warwick Tompkins in 1928. In 1929 it was commissioned as a cruising yacht and sail training vessel, and was renamed the 'Wander Bird'. In 1936 Tompkins sailed her around Cape Horn to San Francisco Bay. After a voyage to Tahiti, Tompkins laid the schooner up in Sausalito, California in 1941 where she became a houseboat. After some unsuccessful trials to sell her back to Germany she departed Sausalito for Seattle in October 1998, the new owners Jim Flury and David Cook intended to offer charter cruises in Mexican waters but instead chartered her to a non-profit group in Seattle to serve as a sail training ship and goodwill ambassador for the city, this program never got started but the schooner remained in Seattle. The Amerigo Vespucci was built in 1930 at the Royal Naval Shipyard of Castellammare di Stabia (Naples). She was launched on February 22, 1931, and was put into service in July of that year. The vessel is a full rigged three-masted steel hull 82.4 m (270.34 ft) long, with an overall length of 101 m (331 ft) including the bowsprit and a maximum width of 15.5 m (51 ft). History: The U.S.S. Constitution, a three-mast frigate, is the worlds oldest commissioned warship. Built primarily with dense southern live oak, its hull was 21 inches thick in an era when 18 inches was common. Paul Revere forged the copper spikes and bolts that held the planks in place. The 204-foot-long ship was first put to sea in 1798 and its most famous era of naval warfare was the War of 1812 against Britain, when it captured numerous merchant ships and defeated five warships, including the H.M.S. Guerriere. It was during the ferocious battle with the Guerriere that British seamen, astonished at how their cannonballs were bouncing off the Constitutions hull, cried out, 'Sir, Her sides are made from Iron!' Hence, the nickname, 'Old Ironsides'. The Constitution today is a national landmark and is currently docked in Boston. [ Package: weights: 33 lbs. 43 X 15 X 39 ] [contact for info.]

History: The El Cazador (The Hunter) was a Spanish brig that sank in the Gulf of Mexico in 1784. On October 20, 1783 it was sent by Charles III of Spain on a mission to bring much-needed hard currency to the Spanish colony of Louisiana. The ship sailed to Veracruz, Mexico, where it was loaded with approximately 450,000 Spanish reales. King Carlos III enlisted his most trusted captain, Gabriel de Campos y Pineda, to captain the ship. On January 11, 1784, it sailed for New Orleans, and was never heard from again. Spains attempts to locate the ship were unsuccessful and in June 1784, El Cazador was officially listed as missing at sea. Then, on August 2, 1993, the trawler Mistake, while fishing in the Gulf of Mexico fifty miles south of New Orleans, hung its net on a snag. The trawler was captained by Jerry Murphy and its home port was Pascagoula, Mississippi. When the crew hoisted the net and dumped the contents on the deck, they found the net was filled with silver coins. The coins bore markings from the Spanish mint in Mexico, along with the date 1783. Treasure from the ship is now administered through the Franklin Mint. [ Package: weights: 15 lbs. 30 X 12 X 28 ] [contact for info.]
